Me, Amelia and Viki

This morning I had class at 8:45 am – again. Pilar and Allyson are both in the class, though, so that was good. The class is called Morphology, the study of shapes... and I’m DEFINITELY not taking it! We spent the first hour learning about dynamic rectangles and some kind of geometric spiral that you can make by combining dynamic rectangles and the arc from one diagonal... Oh Lord. It was awful. I definitely did not go back for the second half. Allyson liked it, though, because she’s a math minor.

So I hung out in the computer lab until our second class, Photography of Architecture. Allyson and I are together in that one too. But it turns out that the classroom listed on our schedule for the class is actually for a different photography class, and they have no idea when ours is going to be. So we sat through an advanced photography class that was definitely mostly over my head as far as technical stuff. Lenses, filters, development techniques... It was cool though!

After that was history. It was pretty interesting. We talked about the colonial period, and how the two different ruling families in Spain shaped the development of South America. It was history.

Then we had Spanish. We talked about Ser vs. Estar (vs. Tener), and Estar vs. Haber. It was grammar. It was pretty basic, but we also talked about some more complicated uses and how using different verbs changes the meaning of the sentence. So it was definitely interesting! I think it’s going to be a really good class that’s going to help me improve a lot. We have the basics down, now it’s the nitpicky stuff.

After class, I came home, changed clothes, waited 45 mins for the bus, and went to Megan’s brother’s hair salon. Megan is a girl from the CC-CS program. Her “brother” is her host brother here. It’s kind of a complicated relationship – they are “brother and sister” but they also like each other but they aren’t dating or anything... I dunno. So anyway I met Megan and Leah, another girl from the program who was also getting her hair done too. We got there around 7:00 pm.

Diego, Megan’s brother, started with Leah’s hair first. She was getting it colored a little darker (it was kind of orange before). I decided I wanted to get really fine highlights put in my hair – copper or strawberry blond. So Diego did that next. He used a cap, and it took FOREVER! Because I have very fine, long hair. And it also hurt like hell. He did a really good job not yanking on it or anything, and he told me to let him know if he hurt me, but he was using a crochet needle to pull my hair through a latex glove – how could it not hurt? LOL It wasn’t too bad though. Then Leah washed her color out, and decided to get dark brown highlights put in. Not small ones like mine but foil highlights. I got my hair cut while her color was setting, and then she got hers cut. Mine looks amazing! It’s not much shorter, it just has some nice layers in it, and the highlights look really natural. I’m really excited. Leah’s looks good too! Diego is a great hairdresser. But we were there until 11:30 pm! Like 4 and a half hours! Crazy. So I missed dinner, they eat around 9:30 pm, and when I came home everyone was asleep. So I scrounged around for some food and hung out for a while.

At 12:30 am, Allyson came over, and we waited for the remis. We left the house at about 1:00 am to go downtown to Nueva Córdoba to a club called La Osa. It was pretty fun, but there were a LOT of people, so everyone was pushing and shoving, and there was a lot of fake fog. The music got better as the night went on... It started out kind of techno pop, but later they played some dance music and some songs we knew, so that was nice. A lot of people from the program were there: Leah, Megan and her brother Diego, Anne, Amelia, and Christina, plus me and Allyson. We also met up with some of the tutoras: Vane, Viki and her sister Pía. It was a really good time!

Allyson, Amelia, Anne, Megan and I finally left around 5:00 am and shared a taxi home. I got home a little before 6:00 am, and talked to Andrew for a few hours. Then I ate breakfast, did some laundry (all my clothes smelled like cigarette smoke from the club), did a little homework, ate lunch, talked to Andrew some more, and now I’m about to go to bed!

We’re going out again tonight, to see Vicky from CRI (not Viki the tutora) and her band play along with 2 other bands. I think it’s gonna be a good time!
