Montevideo's Cathedral... So gorgeous.This morning I got up and ate breakfast at the hostel. Then Shino and I walked around the historic district. Well, wandered is probably a better word. The first place we went to was closed, then there was a nice plaza, but it was turned diagonally so we took the wrong street, but that was okay because that street led down to the water! Montevideo is a beach city, but the beach is on the other side of the city from the hostel – plus it was like 40 degrees outside – so we never made it over there. Maybe next time...
But where we were, there was more like a wall that dropped down to the water – it reminded me kind of the Battery in Charleston. It was really gorgeous! I didn’t realize how much I missed the sound of the ocean... I could have spent all day there, but it was really cold, so we walked back up to the historic district.
We visited the Cathedral, and we also went to Mass! That was really interesting. Shino had never been. And they were saying everything in Spanish, so I could understand it but I didn’t know the words... (for the Our Father and “The Lord be with you – and also with you” and all of that.)
I am completely obsessed with the cathedrals here... I created a special Photobucket folder just for them. I wish we had churches like that in the USA. They are really phenomenal.
After Mass, we went into some tourist shops and walked down 18 de Julio, the main shopping street. We basically just walked around and anywhere that looked interesting we stopped. At one point, we went to lunch in a little café.
After all of our adventures, we went back to the hostel to grab our bags and head to the bus station. This time, we watched an “Axel” concert, and I’m absolutely in love with one of the songs. It’s called “Tu amor por siempre.”

Then we ate dinner and watched “The Contract” with Morgan Freeman and John Cusack. It was pretty good, actually.
