Amy and I at Christina's birthdayI didn’t have class today – having Fridays off is SO nice! I slept in and talked to Andrew. After lunch, I went with Fran to the Dinosaurio Mall, which I absolutely love! I found some really cute stuff there. I also bought an Axel CD, the singer that I was talking about the other day. It’s amazing.
After we shopped for a while, we decided to walk around and look for somewhere to eat. So we walked from the Dino to Rafael Nuñez – about 15 blocks – and then we walked about 20 blocks up the Nuñez until we found a restaurant that was open. Johnny Be Good, of course! But hey, we definitely earned our meal...
After dinner, I went home and took a nap. Around midnight, I left for Christina’s birthday party in the residence hall. On the way, Leah called and asked me to stop and buy ice and plastic cups. And so began the Córdoba Scavenger Hunt. My remis driver was amazing – we went to a service station to buy ice, then to a Farmacity that’s open 24 hours to buy cups. BUT they don’t sell cups at the Farmacity, so we drove up the road to a kiosk that’s owned by some friends of his. They sold us 35 cups for 8 pesos. Finally, we drove to the residencia. About a block before we got to campus, we got stopped at a police checkpoint! I didn’t have my passport with me, of course – I keep a photocopy in my purse, but I didn’t have my purse either. But they let us go anyway with no problem. Thank goodness! FINALLY we got to the campus. The whole adventure only cost me 16 pesos, including a nice tip!
Christina’s birthday was amazing! We had a really good time. Johnny from CRI and Matias (someone’s tutor) were there – they are both in the Kung Fu class with me. Esteban was also there; he’s in the Taller de Expresión class that Allyson and I went to twice by accident looking for the other photography class. And Joaquim introduced himself – apparently he’s in my Typography and Technology classes. Oops! But he seems really nice. A lot of people from the program came: Amy, Leah, Josh, Jordan, Russ, Mary Marshall, Julian, Anne, Jessica, Megan and Jen. Probably others too. Amelia didn’t come because she was sick, Allyson didn’t come because her parents are in town from the USA, and Fran and Bryan weren’t there... I don’t know who else. Shino came, and Vane and Diego! I hadn’t seen Vane in forever, like a week! Diego (Vane’s friend, not Megan’s brother who cut my hair) is the one who came with us out to eat that time. They are so sweet! Guillermo, Josh’s roommate, who I met at Vicky (from CRI)’s party, was also there. There were also a bunch of people from the residencia who I didn’t know. Some were friends of Christina’s, and others were friends of Christina’s roommate. But it was nice to get to meet some other students!
