This morning Allyson and I went downtown to pick up out Certificados de Reincidencia, which we have to take Friday to the Oficina de Migraciones. This whole visa thing is a huge pain! And, oh joy, I get to do it again next semester! LOL
Anyway then I came back to the house – Allyson had her meeting with Alfredo so she went on to school. I did some homework, ate lunch, and went to class. Our class today was a special class with a new professor, José, about Argentinian history and politics. It was really interesting!
After class, I went and worked out with Mary Marshall again. I feel so much better!
After exercising, I went straight downtown to meet up with my tutor Pilar, some kids from school and some of their tutors. There were 10 of us in all, 7 students and 3 tutors. I got there first, and had some time to burn, so I went to the librería and bought notebooks and school supplies. Once I got to the plaza, I waited a few minutes, and then the other students came... The tutoras were on Latin time and were running a little late! LOL
While we waited, we made friends with these three 12-year-old “punk” boys from Córdoba who wanted to be in all our pictures. They thought they were very cool. We thought they were very funny. We also made friends with this group of kids from a boys Mechanical Engineering technical school in Entre Ríos (a province of Argentina). They were visiting Córdoba for a few days on a study trip. They took pictures with us too!
Finally all the tutoras got there and we walked around looking for a place to eat. Pilar suggested a fast food place, but we wanted a restaurant, so we walked to Johnny Be Good. But they didn’t have space for us, so we walked back... We passed a restaurant called Il Gato and decided to try there... They had space, so we stayed. It was delicious!
Allyson and I shared salmon a la plancha (grilled) with fettucine. Yummy! We didn’t finish dinner until around 1:00 am, so after that most of us went home. The tutoras and Amelia decided to stay downtown for a while, but I have horseback riding at 10:30 am tomorrow, so I needed to sleep! It was very fun though.
Ah, and Pilar taught me a new word: escarvadientes! It means, literally translated, “carve your teeth.” It’s actually a toothpick. But it’s a much better way to say it! Kind of like “matafuegos” – “fire killer”, what we call a fire extinguisher. Their words are so much more fun!
