Tuesday – September 4, 2007

Friday morning when I woke up, I talked to Andrew for a while. Jessica came over after lunch and we worked on our essays for Literature. I finished my typography project that afternoon, and then went out to dinner with Christina, Anne, Amy, Leah and Bryan at Bajo Fondo. Leah and Jessica left to go out downtown and Bryan went home, but Anne, Amy, Christina and I stayed and chatted until 2:30 am. It was so nice to just hang out and talk!

Saturday was absolutely gorgeous! I walked around the neighborhood, relocated the church that I want to try out tomorrow and checked out some cute stores. I also found a gym that has Tae Kwon Do classes! The only problem is that the classes are on Monday and Wednesday nights at 6:00 pm, which means I could only do it on Wednesdays – I have tango until 8:00 pm on Mondays. I finish just in time for Kung Fu! LOL

Saturday night I went to the artisan fair with Amy and Anne. It was absolutely gorgeous! Apparently they have it every Saturday and Sunday night until 10:00 pm. I never knew about it, but it’s really nice. I found an amazing gift for my grandmere – it was a little pricey, but it’s hand-worked silver, and I know she’s going to love it. When I saw it, I immediately thought of her. I can’t wait to give Christmas presents this year!

After the artisan fair, Anne and I went over to Nico’s apartment. He made us pasta and we watched “Shakespeare in Love.” It was so good! It made me cry. I had never seen it, so. But that was a nice, chill weekend.

On Sunday, I got up in time for church but decided not to go. Andrew’s being “temporarily” transferred to another unit for a month, which means that we won’t be able to talk for a while. He should at least be able to email me every week, so at least I’ll hear from him, but it’s not the same.

After he went to bed, I finished the rough draft of my Literature essay and took a nap – when I woke up, my host family was gone. I was lonely and didn’t really feel like being home alone, so I made myself some dinner and tried to find something on television. The elections were on Sunday, so all the channels were occupied with that, except Disney channel – my favorite. Did you know that voting in Argentina is obligatory? If you don’t vote, they make you pay a fine! I think that’s a very interesting system. But anyway, I watched “Brother Bear” in Spanish on the Disney Channel and it made me cry like crazy. So when my host mom came home I was sitting at the kitchen table sobbing about a Disney movie. Valentina was very worried. LOL

Yesterday, I had Typography bright and early. But I had finished my project, so it was all good! After Typography I went and did the aerobics class. We did step this time, which I like a lot better. Mary Marshall came again, and we also had two Argentinian kids, so that was nice!

I also talked to Bryan – his “sister” here is a tourism major, so she arranged a trip for this weekend to the Sierras to go hiking and rappelling. I’m so excited!

After aerobics, we had Literature class. We started our unit on “Literatura Gauchesca” today – literature written about the gauchos. It should be really interesting! Candelaria corrected my rough draft of my essay so I could finish that. Then we all hung out until Tango. We’re supposed to wear our tango dresses next time so that the teacher can approve them. I’m excited! I still think the exposition is going to be really scary, but it should be fun.

After Tango, I hopped a bus to Kung Fu. Every Monday I get there almost a half hour late – but hey, that’s life. Even half a class is worth it. Mostly what I’m missing is the conditioning, but I’m going to aerobics every Monday anyway, so it’s okay. I’m working on learning the first form. We’ll see how mixed up I get when I come back to Tae Kwon Do! Haha

Then today, I had horseback riding. We went on a cabalgata (trail ride)! That’s my favorite part. We go every month – I think it’s our reward for all that arena work. LOL But it was really nice. I did take pictures this time, which are fantastic, but Photobucket is being stupid at the moment. So those will be uploaded ASAP.

Then I came home, at lunch, and went to class. We had History and Spanish. In History, we had to make a “mental map” – like a story web – of the unit... It reminded me of the ones we used to make at Greenville Middle in Mrs. LaRue’s class. Back in the day, as it were. Spanish was REALLY boring today. All we had to do was rewrite a few paragraphs that we had turned in – she marked the errors with numbers and we had to figure out why it was wrong and how to fix it. A good exercise, I suppose, but boring. I hate rewriting...

Then I came home and finished my Literature essay for tomorrow. Vero’s mom, Gabi, Fer and Allyson all came over for dinner, so that was nice! It was fun to hang out with them again. I almost never see Allyson anymore, either! Que triste. So now I’m going to help clean up the kitchen and go to bed.
