We finally got to Iguazú this morning around 10:00 am. We went straight to the hostel. We couldn’t check into our rooms until 2:00 pm, so we hung out and ate some lunch. Jessica, Allyson and Mary went swimming – in a thunderstorm. They are insane. Then we finally checked into our rooms, dropped our bags and went to Iguazú Falls National Park.
We got to the park and walked over to the information center. We did a “Gran Aventura” (Great Adventure) boat ride, which took us down the Iguazú river, through some rapids, and up underneath the falls! We were all soaking wet, but the day was full of wonderful humid subtropical heat so we didn’t mind. The falls are absolutely gorgeous! The boat ride was awesome, I would recommend that to anyone going to Iguazú. Then we hiked back up to the entrance of the park (after getting lost approximately 12,000 times) and hopped on the bus. The scenery on the hike was absolutely gorgeous! However, the trails are not well marked and we definitely wandered around in circles a few times. But it was fine. Iguazú is literally the land of a thousand waterfalls... Every time you turn a corner, there’s a new one! The park closes really early, so we didn’t have time to see everything: it closes 6:00 pm to protect the nocturnal wildlife.
Then we took a bus into town to go to the supermarket. Mary brought Kraft Mac-and-Cheese from the States, so we bought some hot dogs, milk, butter and of course pudding cups. Then we went back to the hostel and made hot dogs and mac-and-cheese. We made lots of new friends, because they all wanted to try it! :-)
After dinner, we watched the DVD of our Gran Aventura tour. It was pretty boring initially, just a summary of the history of the region, but when it got to the part on the boat it was great! We ended up going to bed pretty early – our bus for the park leaves at 8:00 am tomorrow.
